What is LAMP?
LAMP is a popular web development platform based on Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (or Python or
Perl.) As of August 2005, Netcraft
reports that nearly 70% of the world's websites are based on Apache, with PHP running on about 50%
of those installations.

What are BitRock Web Stacks?
BitRock Web Stacks are pre-configured distributions of Apache, MySQL or PostgreSQL, PHP, Python and other supporting libraries. Each "stack" is packaged with a user-friendly installer built with BitRock InstallBuilder, so it can quickly be installed in GUI, text, or unattended mode.

Are BitRock Web Stacks free?
Yes! BitRock Web Stacks include only open source components and we make our distributions
freely available to anyone, for both commercial and non-commercial purposes under the terms of the Apache License 2.0. You can download them here and get started right away. To complement our open source offerings, we also provide commercial support options.

So, how do you make money?
We offer support subscriptions for BitRock Web Stacks for individuals and companies that are either new to open source, or want the peace-of-mind provided by having a team of experts on hand. Also, while BitRock Web Stacks are a useful solution for many end users, ISVs and IT departments often require customized versions of our stack that include a range of open source tools and applications, plus their own code. For those clients, we build customized distributions and package them to provide a professional, user-friendly installation experience for end users.

Which operating systems do you support?
We commercially support the following platforms:
- Red Hat 9
- Red Hat Enterprise 3, 4
- Fedora Core
- Suse Enterprise Server 8, 9
- Suse Linux 9.x
- Ubuntu 5.04
Our goal is to support as many Linux platforms as possible. Although at the moment, we only offer commercial support for the distributions listed above,
Bitrock Web Stacks are known to run on many others, such as: Mandrake, Debian, Slackware, and Gentoo.
Please let us know of any issues that you may find when running a BitRock Web Stack on your favorite distribution.

Why should I use a BitRock Web Stack when I can download the components myself?
We spend the time integrating and fine-tuning the
components in each Bitrock Web Stack so they are compiled, tested and
configured for maximum performance, security, and
an excellent out-of-the-box experience. This can save you hours of time
downloading, configuring, and testing your own LAMP environment, especially
if you are new to Linux and Open Source.

Do you make any proprietary changes to the open source software that you include?
No, we do not. For maximum compatibility and stability, our software is based on official releases
and is not altered in any way. We add value by compiling, integrating,
configurating and testing the different components and presenting them in an easy to
use package. Whenever possible, any bugfixes or improvements that we produce
will be contributed back to the original projects.

How do I get started with BitRock Web Stacks?
