The leading multiplatform installation tool now includes support for Linux 64-bit and RPM package generation.
_San Francisco, CA. January 23, 2007 – _ BitRock Incorporated announced today the release of BitRock InstallBuilder 4.0, which adds support for Linux 64-bit and the ability to generate RPMs. The development tool turns the application packaging, distribution and deployment process of multiplatform applications into a fast, easy and cost effective task for independent software vendors and custom application developers. The ability to generate RPMs from installer project files saves hours of development time and eliminates the need to maintain separate RPM and installer-building processes.
In addition to support for Linux 64-bit and RPM generation, the 4.0 release of BitRock InstallBuilder includes several new and improved features, including the ability to ask multiple questions per page, which provides for streamlined collection of user data and the creation of an even friendlier, faster, installation process. Support has also been added for generating installers with a Qt® front-end.
"BitRock customers range from the leading open source companies, to the world's largest semiconductor companies, to universities and independent Linux game developers," said Erica Brescia, VP of Business Development for BitRock, "so InstallBuilder includes functionality that meets a broad range of needs. InstallBuilder development is also driven by our own experience packaging our customized stack solutions, developing sophisticated installers to install and configure software such as Apache, MySQL and PHP. The result is a powerful, but very easy to use tool that allows for rapid installer creation."
Developers can use BitRock InstallBuilder's GUI, XML, or command line interfaces to quickly develop native, self-contained installers that do not require bundling a Java runtime or a self-extraction step. Installers for all supported platforms are generated from one project file, simplifying the installer update and maintenance process and integration with in-house build systems. Convenient built-in actions automate much of the building process, so developers can spend less time building installers, and more time enhancing their own product.
