Products: MySQL is the world's most popular open source database. It is used in more than 10 million installations ranging from large corporations to specialized embedded applications on every continent in the world. The MySQL Enterprise subscription is the most comprehensive offering of MySQL database software, services and support to ensure your business achieves the highest levels of reliability, security, and uptime.

Challenge:

As part of their MySQL Enterprise subscription, customers get access to the MySQL Network Monitoring and Advisor Service, which continuously monitors MySQL servers and sends alerts for potential problems before they impact the target systems. The service requires Apache, PHP, Tomcat and a customized MySQL database to be installed on the user's system. MySQL's widespread use and diverse customer base dictates the need to support a broad range of platforms. MySQL wanted to provide customers with a complete, easy to install package.

BitRock Solution:

BitRock worked with MySQL to develop Custom Stacks that include the MySQL Network Monitoring and Advisor Service and all of the open source software it requires. The intuitive installers offer users the option of installing the software via a user-friendly graphical interface, or in text or unattended mode (for remote installs). The Custom Stacks are available for a wide range of operating systems, including Linux, Windows, Solaris, HP-UX and Mac OS X, and architectures, including x86, x86_64, Itanium and PA-RISC. The end result is a fast, user-friendly installation process for all supported platforms that prevents installation-related errors, decreases support requests, and presents a professional image to MySQL Enterprise subscription customers.
